    Petit, Amable (I) 1797 - 1857

An employee of the Hudson's Bay company, the elder Petit appears to have heft two half-grown sons in eastern Canada when he came West. His marriage on March 27, 1837, at Fort Vancouver, to Susanne Tawakon is entered on page One of the register kept by the Anglican chaplain, Herbert Beaver. Petit and Susanne were remarried by the Catholic priest in December of the following year. His recorded children by Susanne are Charles, Henri, Celeste, Marie, Pierre, Francois, Louis, Louise Philomene and Flavie, dating from 1837 to 1857. He died at the age of seventy at St. Paul and was buried in the old cemetery there.
